Barcelona – Architecture Studio Session | #08 - Benedetta Tagliabue - EMBT

The Architecture Studio Sessions is a captivating series of ten events that is part of the official UNESCO-UIA World Capital of Architecture 2026 program in Barcelona.

Curated and coordinated by Miriam Giordano, Gaia Pellegrini, and John Hill, leading architecture studios will open their doors to share their workspaces, philosophies, and creative processes across ten engaging sessions. Each event combines architecture with music, featuring playlists curated by the architects themselves to foster connection among all participants in an open cultural format.

Organized by World-Architects and generously sponsored by Laufen, Roca, and Simon, in collaboration with Labóh and L35, the Architecture Studio Sessions promise to be an unforgettable journey of discovery through Barcelona's vibrant architectural landscape.

The studio
Benedetta Tagliabue is an architect and co-founder of EMBT Architects, established in Barcelona with Enric Miralles (1955–2000), and founder and director of the Fundació Enric Miralles. She has led the design of iconic works such as the Scottish Parliament (2004), the Santa Caterina Market (2005), and the Spanish Pavilion for the Shanghai Expo (2010). Recent projects include the Church and Parish Complex of San Giacomo Apóstolo in Ferrara (2021), the Centro Direzionale Metro Station in Naples (2024), and the Clichy-Montfermeil Metro Station in Paris (2024). She currently serves as the Louis Kahn Visiting Professor at Yale University and has previously taught at Harvard, Columbia, and other leading institutions. In 2024, she was awarded the Order of Isabella the Catholic for her contributions to Spanish architectural heritage and her role in strengthening cultural ties between Spain and Italy.

The space
The event will take place at the Fundació Enric Miralles, located at Passatge de la Pau in Barcelona’s historic centre. The foundation is housed in the former studio of Enric Miralles and Benedetta Tagliabue, a space transformed under their direction that preserves the experimental character and creative spirit of their work. Conceived as a cultural platform, the foundation holds the most complete archive of Enric Miralles’ oeuvre and hosts activities related to architecture, thought and contemporary culture, offering an intimate setting closely connected to the practice and legacy of the studio.
