NADAAA

Within Ordos, a new city in the Dongsheng District of Inner Mongolia, NADAAA has designed an office park in collaboration with Himma.  Subject to extremely tight regulation, and operating without an immediate context, the plot assigned to the architects was zoned for multiple cubic volumes, all designed as speculative office spaces. 

 

Clad in a local stone, the buildings have a pumice-like roughness which contrasts directly with the delicacy of entries and openings once they are revealed through the carefully controlled “slicing” of the cubes. Panels of stone are arrayed on the facade, producing a language of rhythmic openings, which themselves become part of a more finely grained differentiation of workspaces.
