Barcelona – Architecture Studio Session | #09 - GCA Architects
The Architecture Studio Sessions is a captivating series of ten events that is part of the official UNESCO-UIA World Capital of Architecture 2026 program in Barcelona.
Curated and coordinated by Miriam Giordano, Gaia Pellegrini, and John Hill, leading architecture studios will open their doors to share their workspaces, philosophies, and creative processes across ten engaging sessions. Each event combines architecture with music, featuring playlists curated by the architects themselves to foster connection among all participants in an open cultural format.
Organized by World-Architects and generously sponsored by Laufen, Roca, and Simon, in collaboration with Labóh and L35, the Architecture Studio Sessions promise to be an unforgettable journey of discovery through Barcelona's vibrant architectural landscape.
The studio
GCA Architects is an international architecture, interior design and design practice. With four decades of experience, headquartered in Barcelona and Madrid and composed of more than 100 professionals, it has built an identity grounded in quality design, where function and experience are defined by timeless elegance and technical precision, adopting a fundamental global vision: understanding and awareness of place.
Working across multiple territories and sectors, from hospitality and residential to offices and nautical projects, its portfolio includes key works such as Hotel Arts and the Puig Towers in Barcelona, the international headquarters of Cuatrecasas, and the recent opening of the Royal Mansour Tamuda Bay in Morocco.
The space
The space that now houses GCA Architects’ studio was, 100 years ago, the emblematic Reina Victoria Cinema and later a textile workshop. Since 1995, it has become the firm’s main headquarters, strengthening a deep connection between its practice and the architectural history of the city.
Located in the Eixample, the space restores the original appearance of the entrance and structural elements, and transforms the interior into a large white box lit from above through two broad skylights, generating a sequence of open, fluid spaces. The studio is organised as a large open workspace that encourages the exchange of ideas and creative flow. The main room features a small library that preserves part of the firm’s legacy and thinking. Designer furniture and the presence of artworks complete the character of the space, reinforcing an approach that understands architecture as a discipline in constant dialogue with culture and the city.
