PASSAGE - Karlsplatz Culture Passage
Wien, Austria
On the basis of an architectural competition called throughout EU, the Karlsplatz Passageway and landmarked Opera Passageway have been renovated and technologically optimized during regular, running operations. The intention was to create the ideal mobility for Vienna’s most frequently traveled hub for 200,000 people passing through every day with a bright and appealing design, optimized orientation and an overall feeling of safety.
Using the proximity of several significant cultural buildings, the architects designed the comprehensive overall concept for the transformation of the aged Karlsplatz Passageway to a cultural passageway.
The landmarked Opera Passageway has been renovated in close collaboration with the Austrian Federal Office for the Care Of Monuments true to its original appearance from the 1950s.
