"La Mediterrània" Primary School

Barcelona

Barceloneta quarter was built to relocate the inhabitants that lost their home during Spanish Succession War (1701-1714). The oblique alignment to the seacoast was planned to be, if necessary, easily bombed from the citadel. “La Mediterrània” School solves the oblique line with the class-room building aligned with the seafront promenade materializing a red coated body -combined with zinc elements- that rest on an enamelled black brick base. This block of classrooms takes the course of the promenade along which unfolds a sports ground that looks like an extension of the public space. On the other hand, the lower access for the Children School faces the neighborhood.
