House of Representatives in Berlin

The roof spaces facing the four inner court yards are transformed into 22 office spaces for the political parties of the Berlin house of representatives. The existing roof with its shallow inclination of 3 degrees intersects with the pitched roof, tilted almost vertically, in order to react to the perspective view from the courtyards. The relatively low office space (due to the existing floor to floor heights) receives a generous window opening, which consists of an inclined fixed-glazed window with over head portion and adjacent to it a vertical pivoting wing for individual ventilation. The glazing, applied with reflective coating against solar gain, is set flush with cladding constructed of extruded aluminium hollow sections, anodised in silver. This defines the new volume of the roof.
